Jace from Magic: The Gathering is one of the most recognizable characters in the game, and he's about to start duplicating himself, thanks to a ton of support for Planeswalkers in the upcoming Reality Fracture set, where he creates a whole new "Echoverse" filled with cards that make him stronger, and unleash arcade clones of the sorcerer that can be used in battle.
Planeswalkers are unique creature cards with a "Loyalty" mechanic, which is a number that goes up or down, depending on what abilities they use, and if enemy attacks reduce it to zero, it sends it to the graveyard. The Loyalty effects of Planeswalker cards tend to be incredibly powerful, which is why it's rare for other cards to influence the mechanic.
Planeswalker Tokens Are Coming To Reality Fracture
The upcoming Reality Fracture set for Magic: The Gathering, which launches October 2, not only reunites the original Planeswalkers, but also introduces alternate universe versions from Jace's Echoverse. CBR attended a digital preview for Reality Fracture, where it was revealed that the set is adding a brand-new mechanic to Magic: The Gathering: Planeswalker tokens. As the name suggests, these are summonable tokens with the Loyalty mechanics of a Planeswalker.
The main Planeswalker tokens in Reality Fracture are named Jace, and they start with zero Loyalty Points. Its -1 Loyalty power lets the player Surveil 1, while its -3 lets the player draw a card, both of which will destroy the Jace token, assuming the player hasn't found a way to augment it.

Thankfully, the Jace tokens have a ton of support. There are cards with the Empower Jace keyword, which either summon a Jace token, or give an existing one Loyalty points. There are also cards that give Jace's token extra Loyalty powers, such as Avatar of Burgeoning Echoes, which gives all Planeswalkers a -10 Loyalty ability that gives all creatures the player controls +1/+1 for each land they have on the field.
Planeswalkers are powerful cards, but that makes them high profile targets for enemy attacks, meaning they have to be used sparingly. Reality Fracture not only empowers the existing Planeswalkers, but gives players the chance to spawn them as needed, letting them unleash Jace clones to decimate the enemy. Jace also comes with a brand-new Planeswalker card in Reality Fracture, called The Theorist, Jace Beleren, meaning Blue players will have even more reasons for everyone to hate their decks.
