Mass Effect Drops 6 New Releases Available for Preorder Now

The fate of Mass Effectmight be dire, but that doesn't mean BioWare has stopped selling merchandise for the series, even upon its own destruction, with six releases up for pre-order now.

Mass Effect fans were shocked to learn on October 21 that EA had shuttered BioWare, meaning the studio responsible for series like Dragon Age and Mass Effect, as well as the early Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights titles were gone for good. Clearly, the people within BioWare were just as surprised, considering the sheer amount of leaked content related to Mass Effect 5 that came out in the following days, showing a title that was far further along in development than anyone realized.

Mass Effect Is Releasing Body Pillows and More New Merch

What makes the BioWare closure even more frustrating is that it happened shortly before N7 Day, the annual celebration of the franchise that takes place every November 7. BioWare might be gone, but its official shop is up and running, with new and returning merchandise up for pre-order, which might be the best fans can hope for this year. Saying that, N7 Day is still two days away, so maybe there is some big finale planned to celebrate Mass Effect.

The six items include N7 shirts and hoodies, but the standout pieces are three body pillows, depicting Liara, Garrus, and Tali in various states of relaxation. The body pillows cost $39.99 and are expected to ship in January 2027, meaning people who want to create a Normandy-themed harem will have to wait until the new year to make their wishes come true.

There's Still Hope For Mass Effect

The death of BioWare doesn't necessarily spell the end for Mass Effect, as it still has a TV show in development with Prime Video. The show has survived the collapse of BioWare, and if it's a big hit, then there's a good chance another studio will come knocking at EA's door and try to purchase the rights to make more Mass Effect games. BioWare and EA might have dropped the ball, but plenty of studios could revive Mass Effect and make it better than before.

The Mass Effect universe has incredible potential as a multimedia franchise, one that had been botched under the previous ownership. While Dragon Age might be too far gone to be salvageable, there's still plenty that can be done with Mass Effect, both in terms of new video games and screen adaptations, meaning the sun hasn't quite set on Commander Shepard just yet.
