Developer Rumbleminze has just updated his NES to SNES conversion of Castlevania with 16-bit graphics added by Fiuke Bnuy. As shown in the thumbnail above (click here for a full-sized view of it), they updated the graphics and reworked tiles and levels to look better with the additional color palette. You can still select the original graphics from the main title screen shown below, if you prefer to just play this NES game in it’s original form; Just with all the benefits of a SNES conversion, like less slowdown, less (or no) sprite flicker and MSU-1 audio soundtracks. I’m obviously a huge fan of these conversions and am glad to see a graphics overhaul as well. That said, I think the true advantage of these is simply getting the games to run exactly as developers would have wanted them to on the NES, just with less restrictions. So while I’ll always welcome these graphics updates (and I’d love to see something done with Zelda and Metroid, just for fun!), it’s great that people can choose which graphics they’d like.
